As an offshore jurisdiction the Branch recognises the importance and value of exposing its membership to outside expertise so provides monthly CPD seminars and an annual day-long international conference which form the centre piece of the branch’s activities. These events are also open to non-members. STEP Jersey is supported in its work by sponsors from across all sectors of the wealth management industry both in the island and nationally.
At any one time some 300 of the 1,200 members of the Jersey Branch are typically studying towards their STEP qualifications. Launched in 2006, the STEP Jersey Student Awards scheme rewards those students who excel in their professional exams with prizes awarded to people who achieve the highest marks in the various papers. These are presented at an annual black tie dinner. One member of the committee is designated Student Liaison Officer and is available to answer any queries that may arise during the course of a student’s period of study.
Members of the Branch Committee sit on a number of STEP Worldwide boards and committees contributing to the ongoing development of the Society’s aims and objectives. Members are also active locally through the Branch’s links with other professional organisations within the island such as the Jersey Association of Trust Companies, Jersey Finance Limited, Trust Law Working Party and others. The Committee meets ten times a year.
The Branch Committee keeps in touch with its membership through regular emails and a twice-yearly newsletter that informs them about forthcoming events and any other matters of interest.
