STEP JERSEY BRANCH NEWS ISSUE 10

In the fast-paced world of trust and wealth management services, staying informed is essential for Jersey professionals. This newsletter aims to provide you with the latest developments, upcoming events, and important insights tailored for the Jersey Branch.

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Q1 2025 edition of the STEP Jersey Newsletter.

Stephen Alexander, Jersey Branch Chair

Since my last update, STEP Jersey has continued to thrive, with several key developments and successful events shaping the past few months.

In October, we hosted our Annual Conference at the Radisson Blu, which was a resounding success. The event brought together industry professionals to discuss the evolving fiduciary landscape, particularly the challenges and opportunities presented by AI and regulatory changes.

We also celebrated the achievements of our students at the STEP Jersey Student Awards, recognising the hard work and dedication of those pursuing professional qualifications.

We are pleased to welcome back our annual sponsors—Savills, Investec, and Grant Thornton—whose continued support allows us to run a diverse range of events and initiatives for Jersey professionals. As always, our events remain open to both members and non-members, ensuring broad engagement across the industry.

A particular highlight from 2024 was the launch of our NextGen Series, designed for professionals with less than five years of experience in the industry. This initiative has been incredibly well received, and we look forward to expanding the series further in 2025.

We are delighted to announce that the STEP Jersey Annual Ball will take place on Friday, 23rd May 2025—a fantastic evening of celebration and networking. Table bookings will open in early March, so stay tuned for more details!

In addition to our events, STEP Jersey has been actively engaging with industry stakeholders. We have provided feedback in conjunction with JATCo, Jersey Finance, and the Jersey Government on key consultations shaping the future of the industry. With a new Labour government in the UK and proposed changes to non-dom tax rules, our work in representing the interests of Jersey’s professionals remains as crucial as ever.

STEP Jersey continues to go from strength to strength, and we encourage you to sign up for our mailing list to stay informed about our latest updates and upcoming events.

As always, the committee and I remain here to support you—please feel free to share your thoughts and feedback with us.

I look forward to another productive year.

Expect engaging discussions and interactive workshops, plus ample networking time. Early bird registration is available until February 20, 2025, so don't miss the chance to secure your spot at a discounted rate!

Networking Luncheons

Additionally, we are hosting a series of networking luncheons throughout Q1. These informal settings are perfect for professionals to connect, exchange ideas, and discuss best practices. Keep an eye out for our email announcements regarding dates and venues.

Regulatory Updates

As laws change, flexibility is key. Staying current with regulatory updates is crucial for trust professionals in Jersey.

Key Legislative Changes

In the last quarter, several important legislative changes were introduced to enhance accountability in our sector. Notably, the government has tightened regulations on anti-money laundering (AML) practices and client due diligence requirements.

For instance, the new guidelines increase the minimum requirements for client identity verification to 95%. Trust professionals must closely monitor these updates and be prepared to adjust their compliance frameworks accordingly.

Impact on Trust Management

These regulatory shifts will likely require a reassessment of current policies and processes. Embracing these changes strengthens our reputation as trusted advisors while mitigating potential risks in our operations.

Technology in Trust Services

As we progress through 2025, technological advancements continue to transform the trust services landscape. The Jersey Branch is dedicated to using technology to enhance client experiences and streamline operations.

The Digital Transformation Journey

We are implementing advanced data security measures and exploring blockchain technology for transparent transaction recording. For example, using blockchain may reduce transaction processing time by up to 50%, greatly enhancing service delivery.

We encourage all professionals to engage with the newest technological tools that can bolster crisis management and improve overall efficiency.

Focus on Professional Development

In trust management, continuous education is essential.

Workshops and Training Programs

Our branch has planned several workshops focusing on vital topics such as digital asset management and fiduciary responsibilities. These sessions are crucial for keeping up with a rapidly evolving industry.

Keep an eye out for further communication about dates and registration details. Participating not only sharpens your skills but also broadens your professional network.

Client-Centric Services

This year, our overarching aim is to effectively meet client needs.

Tailored Solutions

The Jersey Branch will conduct a series of client feedback sessions to better understand their specific requirements. Gathering direct insights will help us shape personalized trust services and ultimately drive satisfaction.

Strong collaboration and open communication remain critical for us to fulfill our commitments as trust professionals.

Looking Ahead

As we navigate Q1 2025, it is crucial for trust professionals in Jersey to stay updated on branch developments. With changes in compliance, advancements in technology, and unique networking opportunities, there is much to anticipate.

We encourage you to engage with the opportunities presented and proactively address industry changes. Your involvement is vital in maintaining the high standards we strive for as trust professionals.
